Sigal Shemesh, a mother of three, is recovering after a horrific car accident

Patient of Reuth Tel Aviv

Sigal Shemesh, a middle school teacher and a mother of three, miraculously survived a serious car accident on Route 6.

“The day of the accident was supposed to be one of the happiest days of our lives. Our daughter, Gal, graduated with honors from Ben Gurion University in Be’er Sheva. On our way back from the ceremony, we were hit by a speeding car. Our car was completely wrecked. When they showed me pictures of the car after the accident, I was shocked. To this day, I don’t even know how they managed to get me out of it.

When I was first hospitalized at Reuth Tel Aviv, I was bedridden. I couldn’t get up on my own, let alone walk, bathe, or perform any other basic everyday activities. Losing my independence was the hardest thing ever, but that’s also what inspired me to invest all my energy in rehabilitation.”

I make sure to celebrate all the small victories, which give me the strength to keep going despite the pain. Recently, I reached a huge rehabilitation milestone by receiving walking clearance. Today, I’m already taking my first steps and moving around on crutches.

In an instant, my life was put on hold and the road to recovery is still long. Nevertheless, I can see myself returning to my old life – my children, my routine, trips around Israel, and my dear students.”
